The most important book of the K’iche’ Maya worldview, which narrates the origin of the world and humanity from a profoundly spiritual and symbolic perspective. Its pages reveal that, after multiple attempts, humanity was finally created from corn. Corn is born as a seed buried in the darkness of the earth, germinates, grows, and matures under the sun. Then it is harvested, dried, cooked, and ground into dough. Finally, that dough is transformed by fire into a tortilla. The cycle of corn, the process of making the tortilla, and the creation of humanity follow the same logic. No stage is definitive; each one contains the previous one and prepares the next. In the artwork, this idea is translated into layers of acrylic that function as superimposed timelines. The raw and the cooked, the invisible and the visible, the human and the plant coexist on the same surface, providing the certainty that humanity, like corn and like the tortilla, always exists in a state of continuous transformation.
